PSYCHOTHERAPY
I have learnt that the pure forcefulness of my argument will not hold deep enough to effect any change. Usually when one feels an insight do they own it and therefore act on it for change to occur. Through creation of my model, I have learnt how to be in the world, how to trust and respect that others can find their own path with limited input from me. This approach gets one to examine their life and work predicament at the deepest possible level and allow them to find their roots in their inner world, their picture of life, of the world, of themselves and of the values and ideals they want to live by. As a therapist, I endeavour to stand back once this process of transformation gathers strength and become a companion or witness rather than an author to the discoveries that my client makes.
Executive Coaching/Leadership Development
The complexity of gender issues makes choosing to work with women a familiarly complicated task from onset. However, for me it has served to re-energise my resolve to develop a gender sensitive approach and also engage in further in-depth research moving forward as a Coach. My Leadership model is Existential Authentic Leadership integrated with Integral and informed by Gender Aware Paradigm. My fundamental concerns as a leader and as a coach has remained constant since I began my training and model development process. In leadership coaching, gender neutral approach is an acceptable practice. Leadership is defined in what is considered, male terms of competition, self-promotion and assertiveness even though its available to both women and men. Women leaders can be penalised for contradicting these gendered leader expectations. Feminist critique seemed not to penetrate many aspects of the patriarchal state, which in part lead to emergence of gender mainstreaming, seen to go beyond equal treatment approach. Its purpose is to integrate considerations of gender into all projects, programs and policies by transforming the structures.
